Subject: Minutes May 4, 2005 From: RLaRosa331@aol.com Date: Thu, 19 May 2005 17:51:43 -0400 (EDT) Telephone referral service volunteers: May - Larry Rachman June - John Dunn July - John Liguori Mike Tedaldi reported that we might be able to start the new Vonage referral service this month. We will still need a volunteer to contact people who inquire about our services. There were announcements about some event at Eisenhower Park Aug. 19, 20, 21 (my notes don't say what it is), a request for someone familiar with wireless technology to help organize a training course, NYSSPE meeting at Montauk Point June 2-4 dealing with continuing education, and industrial shelving available from Chris Early. At the June meeting, Irwin Weitman will speak about the benefits of being a P.E. There will be a discussion of problems that members have encountered in their consulting practices, along with their solutions and comments from other members. I counted 31 people total at the meeting. The main topic was a course of instruction on self-booting CD-ROMs with full Linux operating systems and support applications. These can be used with solid state "Thumb Drive" memories to remove viruses from servers and computers. Ed distributed copies of Knoppix 3.8. My computer booted and worked from my copy, but it refused to copy it. I had no problem making a few copies of a Knoppix 3.6 disk, which also came from Ed (Ed is the gift who keeps on giving.), so that''s what I'll be bringing to the June meeting. It's probably not too different from 3.8, I hope. Ed's phone numbers: 516-249-9308 (preferred) and 516-694-6440. Richard LaRosa, Secretary 516-486-7827 r.larosa@ieee.org
